Don't Worry, The Media's On It

The media kerfuffle over NBC News anchor newsreader Brian Williams' "mis-remembering" events he was a party to during the Iraq War is the subject of another Jon Stewart surgical strike.  As we noted earlier, the diligent truth seekers (a.k.a., The Media) have been hunting the wrong witch.  Keep in mind, the same "media malpractice" that Stewart calls out has never ceased.  The "mainstream" network "news," the programs that uncritically catapult Republican bullshit talking points =cough= Meet the Press, This Week, Face the Nation, State of the Union =cough= , are still busy doing the work of Republican operatives.  Remember that the next time you see an "interview" with one of the clowns vying for the Republican presidential nomination and whether they're called on their arrant bullshit by the "guardians of veracity" (spoiler alert: they won't be).  Behold the problem:

We couldn't agree more with John Cole:

We have reached the inevitable point of absurdity in this witch hunt, as we have now spent more investigative energy looking into whether a newsreader saw a floating corpse than we did the totality of the lies of Judy Miller, the lies about Jessica Lynch, and the lies regarding Pat Tillman. All because Brian Williams was trying to do something nice for a retired Army guy by taking him to an NHL game.

As we said yesterday, wouldn't it have been nice if these diligent truth seekers had been as diligent in the run-up to the Iraq war?

UPDATE:  The hounds have treed their quarry (no, not Cheney;  Williams).

It's safe to say, this is most quality work Brian Williams has ever done in the news business.  (Also, if Jimmy Fallon keeps this up on The Tonight Show, he'll be hard not to watch).
