Sentencing The Insurrectionists: The "On The Lam" Man

Violent Trumpist insurrectionist and racist "Proud Boys" member Christopher Worrell was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the January 6 attempted coup, and for disappearing before he was originally to be sentenced last August. From the Associated Press:

"Christopher Worrell, who was convicted of assaulting police with pepper spray, was on house arrest in Naples, Florida, when he disappeared in August, ahead of his original sentencing date.

He was found six weeks later after he tried to 'covertly return' to his home, prosecutors said. He seemed to be unconscious and was hospitalized for five days to treat an apparent opioid drug overdose, but prosecutors say he faked his condition to further stall his sentencing. [snip]

Worrell, 52, was convicted after a bench trial of assaulting officers with pepper spray gel as the mob of Donald Trump supporters attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Authorities say he was dressed in tactical vest and bragged that he 'deployed a whole can' and shouted insults at officers, calling them 'commies' and 'scum.'

Prosecutors say Worrell also lied on the witness stand at trial, claiming that he was actually spraying other rioters. The judge called that claim 'preposterous,; prosecutors said in court papers." (our emphasis)

U.S. District Judge Royce Lambeth took into account Worrell's diagnosis of lymphoma in sentencing him to a prison medical facility while being treated. Worrell also is apparently a user of opioids, which he'll also have to be treated for at taxpayer expense while in the slammer.

Proud Boy Fugitive Caught

An insurrectionist fugitive from justice has been arrested.  This time, Lock. Him. Up:

The FBI has arrested a member of the Proud Boys who went missing just before he was set to be sentenced for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to a spokesperson for the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

"We can confirm the arrest of Christopher Worrell," the spokesperson told ABC News in a statement Thursday evening. "The FBI arrested him and the Collier County Sheriff's Office assisted."

Worrell, a 52-year-old from Naples, Florida, went missing in August just before he was going to be sentenced for several felonies he was convicted on over his conduct during the Jan. 6 riot.

A judge found Worrell guilty in May 2023 of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a dangerous weapon, obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress, and obstructing, impeding, or interfering with officers during the commission of a civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon, engaging in physical violence with a deadly or dangerous weapon all felonies, and an act of physical violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings, a misdemeanor. The verdict followed a five-day bench trial.  [snip]

After the judge in his case was informed that Worrell had gone missing, the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Worrell had been on house arrest after court records show he complained about the treatment at the Washington D.C. jail. The federal judge allowed him to await sentencing while on house arrest.

Prosecutors had sought a 14 year prison sentence for Worrell.  [our emphasis]

A lot of "deadly or dangerous weapons" there.  Now tack on some more years for flight.

These violent, white nationalist bums should never be on bail, house arrest or anything short of a jail cell awaiting trial. Have judges learned their lesson?

Jan. 6 Insurrectionist Runs Before Sentencing

A member of the so-called Proud Boy fascist street thug organization is a fugitive from justice. Christopher Worrell is wanted by the FBI for disappearing before his sentencing for his role in the Trumpist January 6 attempt to overthrow the election and install his cult leader in the White House. (The FBI's wanted poster is here).

According to the Associated Press, Worrell, of Naples, FL, was under house arrest and disappeared days before his sentencing. The thug was facing a recommended 14 years for various crimes on January 6, including assault on police officers. He'll be facing many more years as a result of his flight from justice. Needless if you see Worrell, contact your local FBI office, or law enforcement agency.

Tracking Down The Insurrectionists: Proud Boy Busted

The residents of Stanhope Circle in Collier County, Florida, were awakened in the early morning yesterday by armored vehicles carrying FBI and SWAT team members in military gear who broke down the door of domestic terrorist "Proud Boy" Christopher J. Worrell.  Worrell, who participated in the January 6 seditionist coup at the Capitol, was arrested on various charges related to the riot.

As with many of the loyal StormTrumpers that day, Worrell has had run-ins with law enforcement. In June 2009, Worrell was arrested on felony charges of impersonating a police officer:

"Collier sheriff's deputies arrested a 37-year-old man for impersonating a police officer after he harassed a 23-year-old driver by following her, flashing a badge and yelling at her on Monday night.

Christopher J. Worrell had a loaded handgun, handcuffs, knives, boxes of ammunition, and a fake badge in his possession when deputies arrested him, according to Collier County sheriff's reports."  (our emphasis)

As a Proud Boy, it's possible that Worrell will face conspiracy charges in the January insurrection. FBI agents removed duffel bags of evidence (and probably weapons) from his home yesterday during the raid. He needs to be behind bars for a very long time.
