Mid-Week Spoonful Twofer

It's going to be three or four days of much needed rain here (starting already!), so we thought of this 1966 song from The Lovin' Spoonful, "Rain on the Roof" (which is about a "summer shower," but let's not split hairs).  Since it's hard to play just one Spoonful song, we're doubling up with another hit from 1967, "Six O'Clock."  Hope you enjoy.

Weekend Twofer

This is going to be a beach (Atlantic) weekend, so the first musical offering is from Beach House, a "dream rock" duo that formed in Maryland. They call to mind, IMHO, the Velvet Underground with Nico. Then we have the Lovin' Spoonful with a lesser-known gem. Have a wonderful weekend!

Mid-Week Song

The dog days of summer are here, with three-fourths of the nation in sweltering heat. Many areas of the U.S. will be in triple digits over the next 4 days. Enjoy this 1966 hit from the Lovin' Spoonful that captures that warm feeling.

Weekend Springtime Twofer

Our first selection comes from the Hall-of-Fame-named Ferlin Husky, who died yesterday at age 85. The country music star's first hit, from 1957, was "Gone," which seems an appropriate song to note his passing.

Our "bonus" pick today is a 1965 chiming guitar beauty from the Lovin' Spoonful. Have a beautiful weekend. Remember to help Japan. Happy Spring!

Saturday Night Snowstorm Song

It's snowing more than predicted here in Maryland -- more than 6 inches-- so it's time for some nostalgic music.

I remember seeing this Ed Sullivan performance, and how cool it was when the orchestra appeared. Ignore Zal's mugging and the twit yelling "Zal!" from the audience if you can, and enjoy a beautiful song.
