Today's Dispatch From The Stupid Party

South Carolina Republican State Sen.  Lee "Not Very" Bright opened up what was supposed to be a debate over the state's continuing to fly the flag of slavery and treason on the state capitol grounds, but got a little off-course:

Bright argued that lawmakers should be protecting county clerks from the “tyranny” of having to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples instead of debating the Confederate flag.

“Our governor called us in to deal with the flag that sits out front, let’s deal with the national sin that we face today!” he exclaimed. “We talk about abortion but this gay marriage thing, I believe will be one nation gone under like President Reagan said. If we’re not one nation under God, we’ll be one nation gone under.”

“And to sanctify deviant behavior from five judges, it’s time for us to make our stand, church!” Bright yelled. “It’s time to make our stand and we’re not doing it.”

The senator choked up as he continued: “We can rally together and talk about a flag all we want but the devil is taking control of this land and we’re not stopping him!”

There's video of the speech by this porcine seditious theocrat at the link.  Meanwhile, the clock is running on how long before it's discovered that "Not Very" Bright (fill in the blank with some account of hypocritical behavior).  As far as trying to turn a debate about the flag of slavery and treason to a rant about gay marriage?  The man has a future in the Stupid Party, all right (or at least Fox "News").

And as far as the infallible St. Ronnie of Hollywood disapproving of the "gay marriage thing"?

The daughter of President Ronald Reagan says she thinks that her father would not “stand in the way” of gay marriage.

“He was a very tolerant person,” Patti Davis, 60, the late president’s youngest daughter, said on a YouTube show about gay rights on Wednesday. “He did not have prejudices against gay people.”

So "Not Very" Bright knows as much about St. Ronnie as he does about how our system of government works.  Shocking.

Today's Dispatches From The Stupid Party - Creationist Edition

Recently, the legislature of the Cradle of Stupid Secession, South Carolina, was petitioned by an 8-year-old girl who noticed that her State didn't have an official State fossil.  She wrote to her Democratic State Representative to suggest a Columbian Wooly Mammoth fossil that was excavated locally back in the 18th Century. He thought it was a great idea, so he and a Democratic State Senator introduced bills in their respective chambers to make it happen.

That's when a couple of God-bothering Republican dimbulbs went into action.  We'll let Wonkette capture the Stupid:

State Sen. Kevin Bryant, a fundamentalist Christian who back in 2008 got big satirical larffs with a Facebook post saying “the difference between Obama and Osama is just a little B.S.,” added an amendment to include three verses from the Book of Genesis to explain that God made everything 6000 years ago, because no way did mammoths evolve or anything. Bryant explained that he had no intention of interfering or anything; fossils are nice and all, but “I just felt like it’d be a good thing to acknowledge the creator of the fossils.” 

And when the amendment was ruled out of order on procedural grounds, because it introduced a new topic, things got even stupider. Another member of the “science is lies from the pit of hell” caucus, Sen. Mike Fair, whose district includes Bob Jones University, placed a hold on the state fossil bill. Sen. Fair is such a committed opponent of children being poisoned by knowledge of evolution that the National Center for Science Education dedicated a webpage to documenting his attempts to block the teaching of science.

So we now have scientific proof that there's an 8-year-old girl in the Cradle of Stupid Secession that is more intelligent and better educated than at least two Republican elected officials.  Good to know.

A new international advertising poster for the State of South Carolina proclaims "South Carolina Is So Gay." The poster's appearing in London, as well as Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Washington, DC.

Yeah, just ask Rethug Sen. Lindsay Graham, he'll tell you. Privately, of course.

The Great Smear Mystery

In 2000, Sen. "Walnuts" McCain was running in the Rethugs' South Carolina primary for the presidential nomination. His only opposition was none other than George "Dumbya" Bush. An anonymous smear campaign was launched against McCain, which alleged that his wife was a drug abuser and his adopted Bangladeshi daughter was an illegitimate African-American baby that McCain fathered. McCain lost the primary.

As Glenn Greenwald points out, the mainstream media has always avoided probing the source of the smears, although it was obvious that the only beneficiary was Dumbya, who was the kind of guy the dopes in the media "wanted to have a beer with." The media never followed the trail of the smear back to its origin in likeable Dumbya's campaign, which was being run by Rove. To this day, they act mystified as to where the smear could have come from. Now, eight years later, during this primary season, they're trying to make amends with some rather fawning press for Walnuts. The more things change, etc.
