Mid-Week Song

In 1982, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their fifth studio album, "Long After Dark."  Just last week, it was announced that an expanded, "deluxe" album with seven new songs would be released in a remastered version on October 18. We'll be watching for those seven songs as they drop.

In the meantime, a video made in 1982 for French TV for their "Straight Into Darkness" single from that album has been remastered and released to promote the deluxe album. It's our song for today.

Weekend Music

The great Tom Petty would have turned 73 (!) today. We try not to miss an opportunity to feature one of his songs, so here's your weekend music, from 1981, "The Waiting."  Hope you enjoy.

Weekend Not Backing Down Song

Well, there were several song choices we were mulling over for this fateful day.  Like this.  And this. But we decided on a different message.  This is it.

Weekend Song - No Backing Down

We're reprising this Tom Petty classic (with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Jeff Lynne, and Mike Campbell) as our way of recognizing the heroes of the shutdown/ debt ceiling fight, notably Sen. Harry Reid, President Obama and all Democrats in the House and Senate.  By not backing down to the extra-constitutional threats of the teabagger-led Republicans, you were upholding the best traditions of our democracy.  Thanks to all of you.

Mid-Week (Mittens) Song

Dedicated to Willard "Mighty Mittens" Romney who, by barely winning Michigan yesterday, was a loser. Here's Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' song "Even the Losers" from their 1979 breakthrough album "Damn The Torpedoes". "Even the losers get lucky sometime." Yes indeed, Mighty Mittens.

Weekend Stand Up Song

We're going back to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers again (no, Michele "American Loon" Bachmann, you can't play this one at your rallies either!). Let's hope the President and Democrats in Congress show some hitherto unseen spine and conviction in dealing with the Rethug hostage-takers over the coming weeks (riiiight!).

Weekend Anti-Bachmann Song

This is the song the Michele "American Ghoul" Bachmann campaign tried to cop from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers until they told the Bachmann douchenozzles to cease and desist. Hee-Hee. Enjoy.
