Today's Cartoon - Back, Er, On To The Future With Young Marco Rubio!

(Jim Morin, Miami Herald)

Object of a not- so- secret- media crush Sen. Marco "Glug Glug" Rubio is, of course, just as extreme as the rest of the Republican field.  He just has a pitch and a highly embellished life story that plays well with the gullible, and he's the last hope of the Republican "establishment" and the corporate media (being somewhat redundant there).

Trump: "I'm Not A Loser - It Was Fraud!"

Well, that didn't last long.  "Good loser" and neo- fascist bag o' farts Donald "Rump" Trump reverts to form, after a mere 36 hours:

Rump's reasoning whining is based on reports that supporters of Sen. "Tailgunner Ted" Cruz (R-Calgary) were putting out word that fellow crackpot Ben "The Blade" Carson would be dropping out of the race, and also because of some shady mailers sent by the Cruz campaign.

("Grrr Mmmm. Trump strong man!  No like mean stuff!  Would never lie!  Now must go cry twitter tears!")

"Ayn" Rand Paul Follows Huckster Huckabee Out Of The Clown Bus (UPDATE: Santorum, Too)

The Republican candidate clown car bus has lost two more clowns, odious meat sock Mike "Huckster" Huckabee announcing his departure yesterday with the accurate quip "Voters are sick of me," and Sen. "Ayn" Rand Paul (R- Galt's Gulch) this morning (according to Politic-ho):

Amusing fact:  former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, who garnered 12 votes in the Iowa caucuses, outlasted these two.  Man, that is some kind of deluded!

UPDATE:  It's official - the dudebro is out.

UPDATE II:  Theocratic loser Rick "Frothy Mix" Santorum, who finished in 11th place with 1% of the vote in the Iowa caucus, has decided to "spend more time with his family" as they say.  LGBT activist Dan Savage has the hilarious tweet:

Mid-Week Kind Of Blue Song

It's a rainy winter Wednesday here, and we're in a Miles Davis mood. His album from 1959, "Kind Of Blue," is widely regarded as his masterpiece, and was deemed the 12th greatest album of all time by Rolling Stone magazine -- indeed, some say it's the greatest work in jazz music.  Joining Davis' masterful trumpet playing on this album are some of jazz music's all time greats: saxophonists John Coltrane, "Cannonball" Adderley, and pianist Bill Evans. "Blue in Green" is a track from that superlative album.  Enjoy the blue.

They Said It! (Cont.)

Here's the latest in our continuing series cataloging Republican- on- Republican action during the race to see who'll be the last to emerge from the Republican candidate clown car bus.  Today, it's Gov. Chris "Krispykreme" Christie (Thug-NJ) playing the "Marco Rubio's a programmed, cosseted little boy" card:
“Maybe he’ll do more than 40 minutes on a little stage telling everybody his canned speech that he’s memorized,” Christie told reporters. “This isn’t a student council election, everybody. This is an election for president of the United States. Let’s get the boy in the bubble out of the bubble, and let’s see him play for the next week in New Hampshire. I’m ready to play, and I hope he is.”  (our emphasis)
You think Krispykreme wants to play ... uh, bridge with Glug Glug?

Stepping On Rakes, A Memoir By Liz Cheney

Running for office in Wyoming, announcing her candidacy from Alexandria, Virginia.  D'oh!

Wasn't a major knock against her in her laughable bid for Senate in Wyoming in 2014 that she was a carpetbagger from the Washington, D.C. area? Off to a good start, Lizard!

Pic Of The Day

What if you had a "victory" party and no one came, not even the party-giver?  In this case, seventh-place finisher, job-destroyer and serial liar "Snarly" Carly Fiorina's Iowa caucus party turned into a carcass party that she declined to attend.  Note to Snarly Carly's dwindling supporters:  she's just not that into you.

And The Winner Is.....

As we noted yesterday, the Republican "mainstream" - wired political handicappers are eager to let you know that the winner in yesterday's Iowa's Rethug caucus was (drum roll)..... Ted Cruz Marco "Glug Glug" Rubio! The establishment favorite could have finished behind Jim (Who?) Gilmore and the headline would have been the same: he's the real winner, he had a "big night", and a "strong finish." Young Marco even spun his "concession" speech into a victory speech, taking any uptick in his numbers as a "victory" at this point. Nevertheless, he ended up in third place with 23% of the caucus goers, very close to second-place finisher and neo-fascist narcissist Donald "Rump" Trump.  However, when you add "Tailgunner Ted" Cruz's votes and Rump's votes together, you get 52%. If you want to add in the votes of loony fourth-place finisher Ben "On Meds?" Carson as a protest vote against the Rethug "establishment," that number goes up to 61%. The furious, irrational base of the Rethuglican / New Confederate / Stupid / Shooter's Party won't be easy to placate if the "establishment" is seen overriding them again.   (A bonus from the Rump loss is the failure of snowbilly grifter Sarah "Winky" Palin's endorsement to carry much weight with the knuckle draggers she normally has sway over.)

Young Marco is this season's John Ellis "J.E.B.!" Bush, the  savior for the war hawk / country club /  corporate tax-cutting wing of his party.  It's likely that as the other "establishment" also-rans drop out, Young Marco will consolidate his position as champion of that wing, with the continued assistance of our broken political media that insists on having a hand in the outcome.

BONUS:  Here's Charles Pierce on the emergent "Rubio won by coming in third!"narrative.

BONUS II:  And Laura Clawson.

BONUS III:  And Paul Waldman on young Rubio's ludicrous spin:

"Unctuous Transparent Pander" Beats "Laughable Transparent Pander"* In Iowa

The New York Daily News nails it again:

We're not convinced by any means that neo- fascist bag o' farts Donald "Rump" Trump is finished - far from it.  Perhaps this will be a wake- up call for his lack of field organization and GOTV operation.  Having a three- way (cringe) coming out of Iowa means the race is likely to get nastier and the blood on the floor thicker going into New Hampshire and beyond.

As far as Sen. Marco "Glug Glug" Rubio's (R-MIAmi) third place finish, as predicted the corporate media is already talking about "mainstream" Glug Glug,  the "surge" and Marcomentum., as we'll note in depth in our next post.

Quote Of The Day - Definitely Presidential Material!

(Photo:  Gage Skidmore/ Flickr)

Neo- fascist bag o' farts Donald "Rump" Trump today at a rally of Stormtrumpers in Cedar Rapids, IA (h/t Karoli at Crooks & Liars):
"There may be somebody with tomatoes in the audience," Trump declared.
As the crowd cheered him on, he said, "So if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you, seriously."
He added, "Just knock the hell -- I promise you I will pay for the legal fees, I promise."
As the late Molly Ivins once said of another Republican neo- fascist, it "probably sounded better in the original German."

(photo: The "salute" is all too familiar....)

Losing His Religion

Yesterday, posing as a man with religious beliefs, neo-fascist buffoon Donald "Rump" Trump found himself in a church in Council Bluffs, IA and was passed the communion plate. Apparently bored to distraction, Rump pulled some bills from his wallet and placed them on the communion plate, perhaps thinking that he could get some top shelf communion wine or bribe the minister into endorsing him.

Whatever the reason, it was clear from the communion/collection plate gaffe that he's not used to Sunday Bible thumpings like Iowa's talibangelists, not that it will make any difference.  He could stand in that church with an AK-47 and open fire, and the rubes would cheer him on. They'd even pay for the wall pay for the damage.

Corporate Media Desperately Wants Marco Rubio To Do Well

We agree with Steve M.'s prediction that, regardless of the outcome of the Iowa caucuses tonight, the corporate media will declare Sen. Marco "Glug Glug" Rubio (R-MIAmi) the winner.  As Steve explains:
... If Rubio is in third place, if he's less than 10 points behind the winner, and if he wins a moderate number of delegates, he'll be on the front page of every mainstream media news site tomorrow -- yes, in a three-shot with #1 and #2 on many sites, but often in a two-shot with just the winner, and sometimes alone. (I think it'll be his face you see on Fox sites, given Rupert Murdoch's increasingly obvious preference for him. NBC News, too -- if you have the phrase "establishment lane" in a Chuck Todd drinking game over the next week, you might want to write a will before playing, because Todd's going to tell us endlessly that Rubio is the undisputed master of said lane.)
We would like to add one more sign of the media's hoped- for Marcomentum from the prince of Republican- wired Beltway CW, Chris "Lizard" Cillizza (no link):
For Rubio, leapfrogging Cruz into second place would be a major boost heading into New Hampshire, and probably would make him the favorite to finish as the runner- up to Trump in the Granite State.  A muddled second- third result in Iowa -- Cruz ahead but barely -- would also work to Rubio's advantage, although less so than a clean second.
Third place! Scoreboard!  Everybody gets a trophy, but you get the biggest one, young Marco!

You can almost hear the hearts of these Republican- wired, politics- as- horse- race touts beat faster as they think of their boy finally getting the training wheels off his bike.  If they have to give him a little push, or help him balance as he pedals away, so be it.  ("If the Republican voters won't coalesce behind Glug Glug, then, by God we'll tell them what's good for them!")  Yeah, we'll see how this latest desperation move by the Republican "establishment," its mega- donors =cough= Koch brothers =cough=  and, of course, its supportive media hacks works out.

First, meanwhile, they'll have to find young Marco to tell him of his great victory (h/t The Onion, via Silver Spring Bureau Chief Brian, TCIITM):
UNKNOWN LOCATION—The brightly lit, stark-white room gradually coming into focus as he regained consciousness, GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio reportedly awoke in the Koch brothers’ secret compound Thursday and reached suddenly to his throbbing head to discover a cold metal device implanted behind his left ear.  [snip]
Sources confirmed that the senator was then forced to repeat thousands of talking points about how outdated labor regulations empower unions without actually creating opportunities for workers, and was repeatedly prompted by the voice to give a detailed explanation as to how a preferred plan that drastically cuts corporate taxes would create jobs. When Rubio fumbled an answer or paused for too long, he would reportedly be brought to his knees by a piercing, high-decibel frequency, followed by the voice calmly suggesting that he “try to pay a little closer attention.”

After Rubio was finally able to argue to the voice’s satisfaction that pending environmental protection legislation would ultimately hurt everyday consumers, a slot is said to have opened in the wall and a tray containing a glass of water and three slices of bread was pushed through.
It's getting harder and harder to distinguish fiction from reality, isn't it?!

"Trump Around"

With apologies to House of Pain and to the University of Wisconsin tradition since 1993 (h/t Driftglass):

If Sarah Palin Were African-American....

...she'd sound a lot like this wingnut welfare hack:
"Blacks have shown a slavish support for the Democrat party for over 50 years. And part of me wonders if the Republican party should even bother asking for the black vote because black Americans seem to like being political dummies." (emphasis added)
There's no point in whispering in this moral moron's ear "southern strategy," because it would be to no avail.  Her existence depends on stroking members of the Rethuglican / New Confederate / Stupid / Shooter's Party, which hasn't had any interest in advancing rights or opportunities for African-Americans for many generations.  Indeed, just the opposite (see "southern strategy" above). The simple fact is that she's aligned with the party of, among others, Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, David Duke, and Donald "Rump" Trump, whom she earlier names as the candidate that would appeal the most to African-Americans.  Seriously. The same guy that the Stormfront white supremacist goons love.

Perhaps she's hoping that Rump will throw a little business to her marginal p.r. company. After all, she's not doing this for free.

Ted Cruz Gets No Love... From His Daughter (UPDATED)

It says something when your own daughter literally flicks you off (h/t Crooks & Liars):

Maybe it's past time you stopped using your children as political props;  they don't seem to like it, or you.  What a creep.

UPDATE:  Donald "Rump" Trump, on the other hand, in light of this, hitherto unexplored depths:
