Jeb! Bush Whitesplains: Li'l Danny Snyder's Team Name Isn't Offensive (To Me)!

Man born with a silver foot in his mouth, John Ellis "J.E.B.!" Bush, has determined there's nothing to take offense at with the name of the Washington football team:
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush said the Washington Redskins should keep their controversial name despite complaints from some Native American groups and members of Congress that it is racist.
"I don’t find it offensive," Bush said in a taped interview to air on Friday on the Sirius XM radio show "The Arena." "Native American tribes generally don’t find it offensive.
Some Native American groups have said "Redskins" is a slur and are calling for the team to change the name.

"I don’t think (they) should change it," Bush said. "But again, I don’t think politicians ought to be having any say about that, to be honest with you."
But apparently it's not offensive when a politician takes a large bundle of money from that team's godawful owner.
Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, who has said the name expresses respect toward Native Americans and that he will not change it under any circumstances, gave $100,000 to Right to Rise, a Super PAC supporting Bush's candidacy, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission.
Once again, the Churchillian rule of thumb applies to Jeb!:  we've established what he is, we're only haggling over the price.

Letters We Wish We'd Written Dept. - The "R" Word Edition

From yesterday's once great Washington Post Bezos Bugle, William Ade writes regarding a letter sent by the president and general manager of Washington's football team (i.e., Bruce Allen, brother of former Republican Sen. George "Macaca" Allen) to Sen. Harry Reid on May 23.  Reid and 49 other Democratic senators had previously written the NFL asking the league to endorse a team name change:
I wonder if Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and General Manager Bruce Allen and National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell address Native Americans in person as “our honorable redskin friends.” When handing out tablet computers to Native American children, does Mr. Snyder tell them that being called a “redskin” is something they should be proud of, that having their heritage serve a sports brand worth millions to Mr. Snyder and his partners has “deep and purposeful meaning”?
I don’t expect those gentlemen to admit the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of their arguments; there is just too much money involved. But for the rest of us, this argument that a group of wealthy, white sports executives are honest arbiters of how Native Americans should feel is a charade.
William Ade, Burke
Mr. Ade is correct in saying Li'l Danny Snyder, his butt-boy Bruce Allen, and Commissioner Goodfella Goodell would never admit the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of their arguments. Frankly, it's long been obvious that the only color that gets their attention is green.  If Li'l Danny could profitably own and market a team named the Washington Shitsacks, he would vow to never change that name either.

Today, Native American, civil rights and religious leaders are sending a letter to every NFL player asking them to add their voices to the campaign to get the team's name changed.  Maybe shaming will lead to shunning, and shunning will lead to the change needed.

Li'l Danny Snyder Would NEVER Do Anything Self-Serving!

In the wake of the firestorm surrounding the use of a racial slur as the name of the Washington football team, team owner and marketing magnate Li'l Danny Snyder has apparently been making "secret" trips to Native American tribal areas.  Not that he wants that to be known, oh no!
The friend, who asked not to be identified because the team did not authorize him to speak on the matter, said he told Snyder that he should let people know about these trips.
“And his answer to me was: ‘Don’t you dare. They will falsely accuse me of doing this for material reasons, and I don’t want to give them that satisfaction when, in fact, I know that’s not true.’ ”  [our emphasis]
First off:  Wait -- Li'l Danny Snyder has a friend?  Who knew?!

One thing is sure:  Li'l Danny and his p.r. ass-kissers know how to plant a story (and, by the way, we're getting a lot of satisfaction from reading this transparent hokum and knowing that it's exactly "for material reasons" he's had this leaked to the once great Washington Post Bezos Bugle).  Because of Li'l Danny's typically ham-handed mishandling of the issue of his football team's name (not to mention it's football operations), he's desperately trying to change the subject from his racial insensitivity to his heretofore well-hidden appreciation for the plight of Native Americans.  Is anyone who has the slightest knowledge about how Li'l Danny operates buying that?

Li'l Danny Snyder's Shortcut

Washington Redskins owner and "Hi Y'all" Romney contributor Li'l Danny Snyder has caught shite to the tune of a $36 million penalty from the National Football League and his fellow owners, having maneuvered improperly to gain an advantage over other teams during last year's free agency period. Kaplan Daily's Sally Jenkins has a few choice words (no link) about the little turd's shortcut (oops, better not use a word with "short" in it; Li'l Danny might be sensitive about being vertically challenged):
"Underneath the numbers, there is the sense of something personal in what the NFL did to Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. Strip away the legalese and salary cap terms, and what we are left with is the fact that 28 other owners were so furious with Snyder that they decided to kneecap him. Call it a lifetime achievement award for how he does business. [snip]

Snyder is like a huge costly lien against the team that prevents it from getting ahead. Call it the Snyder tax."

Given Li'l Danny's knack for getting his man-boobs in a ringer while unerringly doing the wrong thing, we can only hope he continues his support for "Hi Y'all" Romney and fellow Rethugs, and that the luck o' Li'l Danny rubs off on them.

2,500 More Reasons to Despise Li'l Danny Snyder

Washington Redskin owner Li'l Danny Snyder gave $2,500 to the campaign of "Landslide" Willard Romney. The little turd sure knows how to pick winners!

Li'l Danny Snyder Writes Again

Our favorite Redskins owner, Li'l Danny Snyder, has propelled himself back in the news today with an op/ed in the Kaplan Daily. In it, Li'l Danny (a.k.a. "the amoral little shit") dredges up his rationale for suing Washington City Paper for an unflattering article it printed last year. Why now? He's refiling the lawsuit and wants to remind everyone what an amoral little shit he is, I guess. Rather than link you to the op/ed, Kissing Suzy Kolber has helpfully taken it and provided explanatory text.

Asshat of the Month

Why it's Redskins owner Li'l Danny Snyder! Never a favorite of ours, the amoral little shit is now trying to get a reporter fired for writing an unflattering profile about him (BTW, is there any kind of profile one could write about Li'l Danny that could be anything but unflattering?).

One more reason we proudly say, Go Packers!

UPDATE: Dave Zirin has a great piece on Li'l Danny here.

Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss

Some may have thought with the departure of Jim Zorn and Vinnie "The Ninny" Cerrato, and the hiring of Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen that Redskins genius owner Li'l Danny Snyder was finally willing to admit the Redskins were in a long-term rebuilding mode -- which would have demonstrated heretofore unseen maturity and impulse-control on Li'l Danny's part. And they would be WRONG!

As Mike Wise ably notes in today's Kaplan Daily:
"Daniel Snyder can bring in a new regime. The owner can say he's ceding authority in football decisions to Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen like never before. But the delusion ultimately continues. They still are in the business of selling hope more than harsh truth, hyperbole more than reality."

The acquisition of 33 year old Donovan McNabb occasions this melancholy assessment. And it's not just the fact of the acquisition, for me. It's also the shabby way Jason Campbell has been treated (again!) by Redskins management - not being told about the deal and finding out about it from a local reporter! Stay classy, 'Skins!

Wise's best point boils down to this: in parsing why McNabb was allowed by the Eagles to go to a rival division team for a paltry second round choice, think about who, over the past decade, has made better personnel decisions -- the Eagles or Redskins?

50,000 More Reasons to Hate Little Danny Snyder

We always suspected the little turd running the Washington Redskins into the ground for the past decade was a Rethug. He had all the characteristics: incompetence, greed, arrogance, selfishness, more money than sense, etc. He also seemed all too willing to shut down progressive voices on his radio stations. But it wasn't until we saw a WaPo listing of contributions to the campaign of Blowdry Bob McDonnell, the Rethug/ Pat Robertson candidate for governor of Virginia, that we had more reasons to hate the little m-f-er: a $50,000 contribution to Blowdry's campaign by "the Washington Redskins."

From now until Little Danny is disassociated from the franchise, this Hackwhacker will be a Packer fan. (Today: Go Chiefs!)

Footnote: The WaPo had a strong editorial endorsement today of R. Creigh Deeds, the Democratic candidate for Virginia governor. Fred must be on vacation.

UPDATE: Chiefs win 14-6!!! Yay!!!! Packers win 26-0!! Double yay!!

(to the tune of "Danny Boy") "Oh, Danny Boy, the Skins, the Skins are all effed up; and you and Vin* are the tools that must be blamed; For the fish, the fish stinks from the head on down; And you and Vin are the fish heads for the Skins"

Quote of the Week

"There is no free market in talk radio today, only an exclusive, tightly held, conservative media conspiracy. The few holders of broadcast licenses have made it clear they will not, on their own, serve the general public. Maybe it's time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine--and bring competition back to talk radio in Washington and elsewhere." - Progressive talk radio host Bill Press in a letter in today's WaPo. Press points out that progressive radio hosts are outnumbered 15 to 1 on the local right-wing blowhard outlet WTNT-AM(not a dynamite station). Press has a personal reason to complain, too. Redskin and Red Zebra Broadcasting Co. owner Li'l Danny Snyder has pulled the plug on the only progressive format in deep blue DC - 1260 AM - which employed Press and several other progressives in the talk radio wilderness.
