Did O'Liely see what his ghost-writer wrote before he signed the check?? Was this run by Roger Ailes??!! How could you say such positive things about "President" Barack Mohammed Adolf Josef Kenyatta Obama!!??

Charles Blow discusses the birther, authoritarian, know-nothing hooliganism on display in the kook right's attempts to derail health care reform/ the Obama Administration in his NY Times op/ed. Citing polling showing 58% of Rethugs aren't convinced of Obama's Hawaiian birth (about the same percentage of Rethugs that believe humans were created 10,000 years ago), Blow concludes "This is no party of Einsteins." True. But, unfortunately, it is a party whose base is angry, well-armed, and responds readily to incitement.

As if further evidence were needed, Winky You Betcha has weighed in (if a lightweight could be said to weigh in) the health care scare derby, using her Down syndrome child Trig as a prop once again. No party of Einsteins, indeed. No party of truth or character either.

Over at the Center for American Progress, Eric Alterman and Danielle Ivory lead us through recent, and not-so-recent history on deployment of the word "socialism" by crackpots to describe what normal, rational people would view as "progress" or "something better." 1) Poot Gingrich telling a Rethug fundraiser that Obama's economic policies have "already failed."

2) Jon Voight telling the same fundraiser that Obama is a "false prophet" whom the Rethugs need to beat in order to free the nation from "this Obama oppression."

3) Frank Gaffney in the Washington "Moon" Times saying Obama was essentially the first Muslim president and that "there is mounting evidence that the president not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself."

"Where the Angriest Words Can Lead"

Speaking of Gauleiter Hannity, Colbert King's op/ed in today's WaPo, "Where the Angriest Words Can Lead," discusses the consequences of the extreme right's increasingly vicious slurs on those it disagrees with. O'Really? is mentioned for his role in demonizing the late Dr. George Tiller. Hannity and Limpballs also come in for specific opprobrium:

"And they must know how their characterization of Obama goes over with those Americans who live in fear that all they hold dear is coming under attack by a fascist in the White House."

Fascist, indeed. How ironic that the extreme right has been trying to define Obama as a "fascist," a system that mirrors their fevered, exclusionary ideology and "big lie" approach.

Think Progress has a piece on the upcoming "tea bag" parties, and how they're, um, not exactly the grassroots affairs that the prime sponsors over at Fox Nutwork would have us believe. Also, check out this laughable entry in the ACORN paranoia sweepstakes; this entry nearly rivals the meme that "far-left" ACORNers are going to be hired for the 2010 Census, therefore all wingers must lock and load!
