Tweet Of The Day - "Did Someone Say Brokered Convention?"

Pants wetting Republican poo- bahs are now gaming the potential for a brokered Republican convention should their heretofore genius strategery of bringing down The Mussolini of Manhattan, Donald "Rump" Trump, fail.  Here's the Tweet of the Day in response to this unlikely, but potentially delightful, turn of events:

He's tanned (actually red- faced), his shotgun's loaded and his pacemaker's fully charged!  Draft Dick!

Meanwhile, Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog has a jaundiced view on the "brokered convention" scenario.  Count us in his camp.

UPDATE:  The genius strategery may already be unraveling.

Thank You, Joe Biden

Thank you, Joe Biden, for not running for President in 2016!  We deeply sympathize with the terrible loss of your son, and that of your first wife and daughter decades ago.  You had a long, generally distinguished career in the Senate.  We think you've been a loyal Vice President.  We think you're basically a good and decent man.  But ...

Let's put it this way:  we've never been terribly impressed with your political skills, your occasional tin ear and your periodic obtuseness.  This was all put on vivid display the other day at the unveiling of the bust of former Vice President Dick "Dick" Cheney, by most measures one of the worst human beings ever to gain high office in the United States.  As the only Democrat who attended the event at the Capitol, you had a few things to say about the Dick, none of it even remotely true:
“I can say without fear of contradiction there’s not one single time there’s been a harsh word in our relationship,” Biden said. “And that’s what I think is most desperately missing today in Washington, D.C. I don’t remember, Dick, you questioning anybody’s motive.”  [snip]
“You have been a great asset to this country and the way you have conducted yourself is a model to anyone in high public office,” Biden said, at the end of a lengthy tribute to Cheney.  (our emphasis)
LOL WTF?! You mean potential war crimes defendant Dick Cheney?  The guy who sold the war in Iraq as going after the perpetrators of 9/11?  The guy who frequently and viciously attacks President Obama (your boss) and Democrats as wanting to weaken/ take down America?  That guy?  A "great asset to this country" and "a model to anyone in high public office?"  Never "questioning anybody's motives?" Again, LOL WTF?!

That's the real Dick Cheney.

Dick Cheney: Still a Lying Dick

Former president vice president Dick "Dick" Cheney still has a hard time handling the truth. Cheney, showing no small amount of envy, had this to say about President Obama's dispatching of Osama bin Laden:
“If President Obama were participating in his intelligence briefings on a regular basis then perhaps he would understand why people are so offended at his efforts to take sole credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden.”
This from a "man" who should be doing time in a Federal penitentiary, and can't travel to certain countries ("Viva Espana!") for fear of prosecution. And "intelligence briefings?" Does the Dick remember the "Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S." intelligence briefing 36 days before 9/11, after which President Dumbya proclaimed to the intelligence briefer, "All right, you've covered your ass now"?? Perhaps the Dick was dozing off. (See also the NY Times article linked to in the update to the "Life from the Ruins" posting below if you want the full picture of Cheney's and Bush's incompetence.)

Of course, President Obama has not only NOT taken sole credit, he always passes the credit around:
"Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who’ve worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. The American people do not see their work, nor know their names. But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.

"We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country. And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.

"Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.

"And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11. I know that it has, at times, frayed. Yet today’s achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people."
Is it too much to ask this sack of shite to crawl back under the rock from whence he came?

Liar, Liar

Loopy Lou Dobbs and the taco terrorists.

Dick "The Dick" Cheney and his tragic case of amnesia.

And, of course, the hive of wingnuttia, the Fox Nutwork 24/7 (hilarious Stewart piece). (BTW, don't expect anything close to this insightful an analysis from Howie "Get That Job?" Kurtz.)

Wingnuts are such crappy liars.

Ever-Vigilant

Former (Vice) President The Dick would like everyone to believe that he held back the al Qaeda hordes by leading us into a diversionary war in Iraq and by pushing torture methods. The evidence remains that no actionable intelligence was obtained through torture, as stated by the CIA Inspector General and FBI interrogation specialists -- and the practices actually helped al Qaeda in their recruitment and propaganda efforts. Nice work, The Dick.

It now appears that The Dick almost sabotaged Britain's efforts to round up the terrorists that were plotting to blow up airliners over the Atlantic. The Dick ordered the arrest of Rashid Rauf, a key operative in the plot, before British law enforcement had a chance to collect necessary evidence against his co-conspirators. "It hampered our evidence gathering and placed us in Britain under intolerable pressure," according to Andy Hayman, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police for Special Operations. Again, nice work, The Dick.

The Dick and The Congress

That former (Vice) President The Dick was contemptuous of the law and the concept of checks and balances in a free country should surprise no one. However, the story in the New York Times that The Dick ordered the CIA not to dislose a secret counterterrorism project with the Democratic and Rethuglican leaders in Congress responsible for intelligence oversight -- as they are required to by law -- is still pretty jaw-dropping. In essence, The Dick and his younger pupil Dumbya were running a quasi-dictatorship, where the Congress was expected only to rubber-stamp decisions made in the White House, and kept in the dark on other decisions. It's clear in this case that whatever The Dick wanted to hide must have been seriously flawed from a Constitutional and legal standpoint.

In the aftermath of the NY Times story, it is likely that the Senate Intelligence Committee will investigate this breach of the law on The Dick's part. No doubt the Rethuglicans will complain dishonestly about undermining the CIA and national security, but the damage their Assministration did to the rule of law and our Constitutional system of checks and balances was far more damaging to America.

The Dick Lied? Say It Ain't So!

We are shocked, shocked!, that former (Vice) President "The Dick" Cheney has been accused of lying about CIA memos that purport to show that torture techniques worked against al Qaeda prisoners. The Dick engaged in deceit? Perish the thought!

Senate Armed Services Committee chairman Sen. Carl Levin said that an investigation by his committee into the claims of The Dick "gives the lie to Mr. Cheney's claims." The two CIA documents that The Dick claims prove that torture worked say nothing of lives saved, nor the value of torture techniques in obtaining actionable intelligence. Nada.

So let's declassify the documents, and let's have that "Truth Commission" that we've heard about. And let The Dick testify under oath.

Advice From Dead Eye Worth Heeding

Former (Vice) President Dead Eye Dick Cheney has offered some advice to the Rethuglican Party: don't go moderate. We strongly urge the Rethuglican Party to follow Dead Eye's sage advice, because if you do adopt more moderate positions, you might actually win some elections outside of the reddest states. We don't want to see that.

One particularly ironic nugget from Dead Eye's musings on Rethug "beliefs and values" was on the "role of government in our society and our commitment to the constitution and constitutional principles." Ah, yes. The role of government, like warrantless wiretapping and politicizing the Justice Department? Like gutting financial and environmental regulations and inserting itself in the Terry Schiavo case? And "commitment to the constitution?" The Constitution that Dead Eye tried to undermine as a "fourth branch" of government, from an "undisclosed location"?

At this point, even a number of Rethuglicans would rather not be reminded of Dead Eye and his follies. But to the extent that he reminds America of what went wrong, we say "keep talking, Dead Eye!"

Dissecting Dead-Eye's Interview

Jon Stewart shows CNN's John "The Schnoz" King how to interpret Dead-Eye Dick Cheney's lying blather.

There's no one better than Stewart at this.

Calling It Like You See It

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, the former chief of staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell, appeared on Rachel Maddow's show last night, and didn't spare any niceties in describing former (Vice) President Dead-Eye Dick Cheney as "evil." Wilkerson's article in the Washington Note prompted his appearance, and mentions Dead-Eye's support for torture, and abuses at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib as supplying al Qaeda with invaluable recruiting ammunition, and directly aiding the terrorists' cause. Dead-Eye has been active lately in criticizing the Obama Administration for reversing some of the Bushit Assministration's policies, claiming it's made us more vulnerable to attack. Wilkerson disagrees, saying that al Qaeda was counting on Dead-Eye and crew to go to the extreme and provide additional incentive for young Muslims to sign up:

"With people such as Cheney assisting them, they are far more likely to succeed."

I Beg Your Pardon

Former (Vice) President Dead Eye Dick Cheney is making it known that he repeatedly ordered Dumbya to grant a pardon to former aide and fellow felon Scooter Libby. Since Dumbya didn't follow Dead Eye's orders, Dead Eye is reportedly "furious" at his former subordinate.

It looks like Dead Eye and Dumbya weren't seeing eye-to-eye for a while; maybe it was Dead Eye's botched role in cooking the intelligence leading up to the Iraq War that chilled their formerly cozy relationship. Who knows?

However, in a sign that things might be improving, Dead Eye has invited Dumbya to go hunting with him, and Dumbya is reportedly considering the invitation. . . .

Cheney Makes Funny at West Virginia Expense

"Dead Eye" Dick Cheney, multimillionaire Rethug plutocrat, was at the National Press Club earlier today when he made a comment about there being Cheneys on both his mother's and father's side of the family. Being the smug turdsqueezer that he is, he couldn't resist making an incest joke involving West Virginia. Let's see how that resonates with the good voters of West Virginia come November.

McSame's Magical Mystery Tour

Senator McSame and his coat carriers, Sens. Lieberliar and Grahamcracker, slipped into Baghdad for an unannounced "tour." Needless to say, they will be reporting on the marvelous conditions they are encountering, and how wise they were to support a surge in U.S. forces last year. One inconvenient problem has cropped up, though: the Shorja market which they visited last year accompanied by 100 troops and helicopter gunships is now off-limits to them. It's controlled by the radical Mahdi Army.

There are also reports that President, er, Vice President "Dead Eye Dick" Cheney also snuck into Baghdad at night, unannounced, to work on the main point of the surge - - Iraqi political reconciliation. Yes, Cheney, the master of political reconciliation and compromise. Maybe he can fire off a "go f*ck yourself" or two to the Iraqis, as he did at Senator Leahy on the floor of the Senate. That'll work.

Maybe next time, these guys can get Ahmadinejad to escort them around. They might even get a parade out of it.

We Pity the Fools!

In honor of April Fool's Day, publicist Jeff Barge and Opinion Research Group issued their annual list of "Most Foolish Americans." Topping the polling this year: Britney Spears, followed by Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, George W. Bush, O.J. Simpson, Dick Cheney and Mel Gibson. No need to editorialize further...
